I had the option to just install everything. You know the feeling: "Oh, this looks cool. I might need this later. Let me go ahead and add it."

Before I did, I asked the AI itself: "Are there any downsides to having a bunch of skills installed?"

The answer it gave me was a massive reality check. And honestly, it's something every single business owner in DFW needs to hear, because we all fall into this trap.

The "Just In Case" Trap

Here is exactly what my AI told me happens when you install too many things at once:

• Slower Startup: Every time it starts, it has to scan everything you installed to see what actually applies. More tools = more scanning = slower action.
• Context Confusion: If you have three different tools that do kind of the same thing, the system gets confused about which one to use.
• Maintenance Overhead: Tools update. Tools break. If you have 20 apps running, you won't even notice one is broken until you desperately need it.
• False Confidence: Just having a tool installed doesn't mean it's configured and working. A broken tool looks useful, but isn't.

Man, when I read that... I had to laugh. Because it wasn't just talking about code. It was talking about how we run our businesses.

You Don't Need Another App

How many subscriptions are you paying for right now that you haven't opened in a month?

We buy the fancy CRM because we think we need it "just in case" we get a hundred leads tomorrow. We sign up for three different social media schedulers. We download every productivity app on the App Store.

And what happens? Context confusion. Your team doesn't know where to look. Slower startup. It takes you 20 minutes just to log into everything before you can actually do the work. False confidence. You think because you pay $99/month for software, you have a system. You don't. You just have a receipt.

Keep It Lean

The advice my AI gave me was perfect: "Install what you actually need or plan to use within the next month. You can always add more later. Keep it lean. Don't install 'just in case.'"
